Rikhiapeeth Ashram

Rikhia Yoga Ashram (Rikhiapeeth) is situated in Rikhia (Rikhiya) village, about 10 KMs from the Deoghar town in the state of Jharkhand.

Rikhiapeeth Ashram Deoghar is the tapobhumi of the great spiritual leader and Yoga Guru Paramahansa Satyananda Saraswati, the founder of Bihar School of Yoga Munger, who is renowned worldwide for his great contribution to Yoga, Tantra, and the Spiritual Sciences.

Rikhiapeeth Deoghar is a place where Swami Satyananda lived the life of a Paramahansa Yogi for twenty years performing long and arduous yogic sadhanas before taking Samadhi in 2009.

Rikhiapeeth caters to sincere aspirants looking for a holistic approach to Yoga, who wish to live Yoga rather than just practice it.

Rikhiapeeth is also the official headquarters of Sivananda Math and Sivananda Ashram.

Under the umbrella of these organizations, various activities at Rikhiapeeth Ashram are Yoga training, Yoga sadhana retreats, Yajnas, Discourses on Yoga, Tantra, and Philosophy to ashram lifestyle where Seva (service) of the rural communities is the main activity.

Swami Satyanand Saraswati

Swami Satyanand SaraswatiSwami Satyananda Saraswati was a Sanyasi, Yoga teacher and Guru in both his native India and the Western countries. He was a student of Sivananda Saraswati, the founder of the Divine Life Society.

Satyananda Saraswati was born in 1923 in Almora district in Uttarakhand in a farmer family.

In 1943 at the age of twenty, he met his guru Sivananda Saraswati and went to live at Sivanandaa’s ashram in Rishikesh.

In 1964, he founded the Bihar School of Yoga (BSY) at Munger, with the intention that it would act as a center of training for future teachers of Yoga as well as offer courses on Yoga.

In 1988 Satyananda handed over the active work of Bihar School of Yoga Munger to his spiritual successor, Niranjanananda Saraswati, and left Munger.

When Swami Satyananda arrived at Rikhia from Munger, it was not with the idea of opening an ashram or yoga center. He came here to live in seclusion.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati founded Rikhia ashram on the 23rd of September 1989.

How to Reach Rikhiapeeth

Rikhiapeeth Ashram Deoghar (Rikhia Yogashram) is about 10 Km from Deoghar town. You can take either taxi or an auto from Deoghar or Jasidih to reach Yoga Ashram Rikhiya.

Nearest Bust Stand is Deoghar Bus Stand- 10 Km (approx.)

Nearest Railway Station Deoghar Railway Station- 7 Km (approx.), Baidyanath Dham Railway Station – 9 Km & Jasidih Junction – 15 to 21 Kms via different routes

The nearest railway station is Jasidih Junction which is on the Howrah (Kolkata)  – Patna – New Delhi rail route. Deoghar and Baidyanth Dham Railway Stations are the local stations.

Nearest Airport is Netaji Subhash Chanda Bose Airport Kolkata  – 320 Km, Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi – 250 Km, Lok Nayak Airport Patna  – 255 Km & Deoghar Airport – 16 Km

The closest international airport is Deoghar. There are daily international flights from New Delhi and Kolkata. And the closest domestic airport is Patna.
